Who we are

The Beverley and District Art Club was originally established in 1955 with Fred Elwell as their Patron. One of the creators, David Wilkinson, continues to support the club to this day, as an honorary member and historian.

The club has experienced many changes over the years, adapting to meet the needs of its membership and to stay connected with the social and cultural developments of the wider, local community.

The club has a very relaxed and informal atmosphere, with a lively and friendly membership. We share a love and enthusiasm for the art we create but we also greatly enjoy the social aspect of our meetings.

Every member brings something unique and valuable to the club, and helps to make the club what it is today. So we are always eager to meet new people. New members are always welcome. Please contact us if you’re interested.

What we do

There is quite a wide range of skills and experience within the club, ranging from total beginners to the very accomplished. Members work in a variety of mediums and styles, both traditional and abstract. Anything goes really.

You will find people:

  • Drawing and sketching using pencil, charcoal, inks and more
  • Working in coloured pencil
  • Acrylics
  • Watercolour
  • Oil paints
  • Collage

Time is also taken out to mix, chat and share skills and ideas. It’s a great way to help each other grow and develop.

To that end we also have a visiting tutor; a professional artist, who visits the club on a regular basis, to give members help and advice on their work.

We also have visiting Artists who are invited to lead workshops and demonstrations. These events are held regularly through the year and are only open to paid up members . The workshops are funded through subscriptions. Some artists will require members to bring their own resources or charge for providing them.

Where and when we meet

The club now meets every Friday afternoon 1pm till 4pm, at Beverley Rugby Union Football Club, Beaver Park, Norwood, Beverley. HU17 9HT

The facilities there provide plenty of space to get creative, a chair lift for anyone who might struggle to manage the stairs . There is ample parking to the front of the building and toilets are on the ground floor close to the entrance.

Membership Fees

New members are always welcome but must be over 18 years of age (no upper age limit).

Members pay a subscription, which is  £10 per month, due on the first meeting of each month. This covers  our rent and running costs  and affords membership regular workshops and demonstrations throughout the year.

The subscription is paid regardless of whether members are able to attend every session. Any member who hasn’t paid their subscription for three months and hasn’t contacted the Treasurer will be deemed to have resigned membership.

Exceptions regarding payment of fees are made at the discretion of the Club’s Executive Committee.

A ‘taster session’ for those wishing to join the club is free.

Beverages and snacks are provided by the rugby club. A price list is available and the proceeds go to charity.
