There are just a couple of weeks until we close for Christmas but there is still lots to report. Our Christmas tree for the Minster has now been decorated and the Festival of Lights will be underway from the 1st December. Thank you to everyone who contributed a decoration . The tree looks fabulous and we received quite a bit of attention from others who were dressing trees.
The session on the 15th December will include the Slate Collage Workshop led by the artist Robert Cheesmond. Please arrive ready to start at 1pm. The room will be set up when you arrive and those wishing to join us who aren’t participating will have an area set aside to work on their own projects.
We may not have managed to find a consensus regarding a gathering for Christmas but still want to mark the occasion with some Christmas nibbles, which will be provided at this session on the 15th.
When we return on the 12th January Catherine has organised a number of tutors/Work shops as part of our programme:
12th January 2024 Watercolour Landscape Artist Louise Evans
February. Watercolour Artist. Richard Burton
March Oil Painting Artist Graham Johnson
April Using other things than brushes to create Art Artist. Larry Malkin
April. Figure Drawing , model Arthur Douglas, charcoal/pencil. Artist. Robin Horspool
May. Acrylics Artist. Geoff Hewitt
Details for each artist and any resources special instructions will be sent out before each event as usual.
During July and August there will be plein air sessions organised for those wishing to participate.
The club will still be open for those who prefer to continue to work on their projects in the Rugby Club as usual.
Robin will continue to visit to offer advice and support to individuals who would welcome critique or have any art related questions.
The committee have met each month and one of the areas we have been working on has been the constitution and the rules of the group to ensure that you have all the information you need. The paperwork is now complete and a copy of the rules, which are the main tenets of the constitution will be sent out to every one . The Constitution will also be posted on the site.
An information sheet for people looking to join the club and for new members has now been put together, which is something that Terry has asked for in response to the kind of questions he is frequently asked, when people contact him inquiring about the club.
We would like to thank members who have helped the Events Team at the Exhibition during the summer. A special thank you to Penny and her husband who helped with the setting up in the Minster.
Last but certainly not least the committee has agreed unanimously that it would like to use its power to make Liz Elwood an Honorary Member.
Liz was one of the original club members involved in its early days. She has been an active member who has served on the committee and has been a support to many members over the years. She is a talented artist who has been good ambassador for the club and has helped with her networking skills and knowledge of the local art community to further the clubs development.
She is someone who is genuinely interested in the work of others and puts new members at ease. Liz has supported all events by advising and offering practical help.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a creative New Year.
