The Workshop with Robert Cheesmond was well attended. Robert brought lots of resources ,which offered the opportunity for participants to choose from a range of collage as well as paint and different mediums to apply to the slate. We were all provided with a large and small reclaimed slate to work on and Robert began the workshop by sharing a range of slates that he had made and talked us through the process.

Everyone was inspired to create and Robert  offered advice and help throughout the session. The paint we were advised to use on the slates was acrylic and he also brought in some air drying clay to add a demential effect for those wishing to experiment.

Collage was something that a number of members hadn’t tried before and at the end of the session the feedback was positive.  The collage consisted of beach combing finds including drift wood , shells and sea glass. There was also small pieces of pottery and broken jewellery, which everyone used in different ways. I was surprised by how well the acrylic paint covered the slate . I was also impressed by the atmosphere I was able to create working on the grey slate, which lent itself to the study I had made of Anne Bronte to include in my piece. it definitely lends itself to “moody landscapes”.

The club provided some nibbles, including mince pies and a few crackers to get us into the Christmas spirit as it was our last session before the club closed for the holidays.

Liz was presented with flowers at the end of the Workshop to mark her new status as an Honorary  Member of Beverley and District Art Club .
