Hi everyone,

There is a lot happening on the art scene at the moment with the open studio event in Beverley and the East Riding Artists event in Market Weighton.

Our very own Linda Saxby has two of her abstract landscapes in this exhibition but I had trouble getting her to have the proverbial pose next to her work but I’m sure that members of our art club will recognise her landscapes in one of her favourite turquoise colourways.

Linda is known for her abstract collages but has recently been focusing on abstracting the landscape in mixed media and also working on larger scale pieces as she loves a challenge. You can see more of her work in the Artist Section on this website.

The exhibitition runs until Saturday the 12th October and is in the town hall. The work displayed is varied in subject and medium used.

Ceramics and textile art are also included ,which I enjoyed viewing as I used to work exclusively in textiles. I hadn’t visited Market Weighton before but found it accessible as there is plenty of free parking and some good places for coffee, which is the icing on the cake.

Well worth a visit.

Meanwhile back at the club the workshop we held on the 27th September led by Geoff Hewitt was enjoyed by those who attended.

He had returned to the club with a session about sketching figures. Geoff makes it look so easy! The exercises included demos, working from a reference photo and I made my debut as a model.

He left us all wanted to learn more about figurative work and we have persuaded him to come back again for a further session after Christmas.

I was immortalised in charcoal and graphite, which was a first. I was given one of the sketches of me drawn by Sandy, which you can see below.

This seated pose of me looking at my phone was the easier pose but still difficult to keep still.
