John Petty will be joining us on Friday 5th September to talk about his approach to painting the landscape. He will be sharing techniques and discussing his work which starts from sketches made in the field.
He will be bringing in his sketch books and the tools and resources that he uses. He will be happy to answer any questions that you have .
You can see John’s work on his instagram: john_humber_artist
We will be starting at 1.30 and the presentation will be held in the Art Room.
The Talk is open to members of the Club.
Anyone who wishes to work on their own projects can set up in the garden from 1pm.

This event was well attended and the feedback was positive. John brought a long his sketch books which was something everyone found to be one of the highlights of an interesting talk about his process. Being able to see first hand his immediate response to the landscape and how he used these books to inform his paintings was something that has been inspirational and sparked interest and conversation during and after the event.
We will be exploring sketch books further and his use of glazes to build up layers.
Some members who did not attend the talk chose to work in the garden under the gazebos. This was the favoured option as we also offered a place on another session/day for those wishing to work on their own projects .
This flexibility is something that the new venue and having sole use of the Art Room enables us to offer our members.
We will be looking to offer Visiting Artists on different days and sessions depending on the feedback from these events as we move forward.
